How To Reach Kashmir?

This, during winter, is the shortest and least hassle-prone way.

By Road: Travelers can easily drive or take a bus from cities like Jammu or Chandigarh. The main route for the journey is via the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway NH44. This route is full of scenic beauty and life threatening during winter due to weather conditions. Private taxis, shared taxis and state-run buses are easily available. 300 km long journey from Jammu to Srinagar takes almost 8-10 hrs.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi. Travelers can hire a taxi from there or take a bus to reach Srinagar. This will be a rail-cum-road journey. Jammu has a good train network with most of the Indian cities. From Jammu, it is a road journey to Srinagar.

Best Time to Visit Kashmir

The best time to visit Kashmir in winter would be from mid-December to mid-February. This season is the real essence of winter in the region with heavy snowfalls, which makes it a beautiful white wonderland. Winter begins in December, which is when the temperatures really drop down and the snowfall starts, especially in the higher altitude areas in Gulmarg.

Winter is at its best in January and, hence, is suitable for sports and snow activities. Sometimes, Dal Lake freezes during this period, thus offering an almost unique experience of ice skating. February sports excellent snow conditions with slightly moderating temperatures and longer days.
